Both directions on the 101 Freeway were closed for a little over an hour through downtown Los Angeles Friday morning due to a “behavioral emergency,” officials said.

The incident began shortly before 7 a.m. on the North Main Street overpass above the 101 Freeway.

“A female patient on the Main St x 101 Fwy overpass experiencing a behavioral emergency,” the Los Angeles Fire Department posted in a news alert.

Sky5 was over the scene just after 7:30 a.m. as first responders had inflated a giant landing pad on the northbound freeway lanes.

Motorists were being detoured off the freeway and advised to seek alternate routes.

Fire officials said a patient was safe with Los Angeles police and fire crews as of 7:45 a.m.

The southbound lanes were reopened by 8 a.m. and the northbound side reopened about five minutes later.

No further details regarding the patient were immediately available.
