Cyclone Fengal Landfall Likely On Saturday, Orange Alert In Tamil Nadu And Andhra Pradesh

Cyclone Fengal, intensifying over the Bay of Bengal, is likely to make landfall in Tamil Nadu on November 30. The Indian Navy is preparing relief efforts as Yellow and Orange alerts have been issued.

Cyclone Fengal Updates: The Indian Navy is bracing for the impact of Cyclone Fengal in the Bay of Bengal coastal areas. The cyclonic storm is expected to intensify in the next one or two days. In anticipation of the cyclone along the coast of Tamil Nadu, the Navy is preparing support for the vulnerable areas in coordination with State and civil administration. "This includes loading vehicles with food, drinking water, medicines and other HADR relief materials as well as positioning Flood Relief Teams (FRTs) for quick response. HQTN&P has also kept their Diving teams on standby for emergency rescue operations," the Indian Navy said in a statement.

The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is "likely to continue to move nearly north-northwestwards skirting Sri Lanka coast and intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 12 hours," the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Cyclone Fengal: Rainfall Warning In Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, And Kerala

Cyclone Fengal could make landfall between Mahaballipiram and Karaikal in Tamil Nadu, close to the Puducherry coast at 3 AM on November 30 as a deep depression. The average wind speed is likely to remain between 50 kmph and 60 kmph and could go up to 75 kmph.

According to the IMD Light to moderate rainfall at many places with Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 28. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on November 29 and 30.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh could receive light to moderate rainfall in multiple areas, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated locations in south coastal Andhra Pradesh between Thursday and Saturday.

The Rayalaseema region is likely to see light to moderate rainfall in several areas, with heavy rainfall at isolated places on Friday and Saturday. The Rayalseema region comprises the eight districts of Anantapur, Annamayya, Chittoor, YSR (Kadapa), Kurnool, Nandyal, Sri Sathya Sai, and Tirupati.

Kerala is also likely to be affected by the impending Cyclone Fengal and receive light to moderate rainfall in many places. The state may get heavy rainfall at isolated places on December 1.

An Orange alert has been issued in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for Friday and Saturday. The two states will have to take action based on a yellow alert on Thursday.

Cyclone Fengal: Fishermen Warning

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the southwest Bay of Bengal till November 30. Adjoining areas of the West-central Bay of Bengal and off the south Andhra Pradesh coast are also off-limits for fishermen between November 28 and 30. Fishermen out at sea have been advised to return to coasts immediately.
