JCI Penticton's annual river channel cleanup was a resounding success last weekend.

Approximately 40 volunteers came out on Sunday Sept. 29 to remove 462 pounds of garbage from the river and the surrounding banks.

The event was sponsored by Bannister Ford and Danny Reigh Real Estate and supported by a team of divers put together by Oceantec Scuba working the waterway.

At the end of the cleanup, all the volunteers enjoyed a delicious BBQ to thank them for their hard work.

Many of the volunteers and divers were happy to report that there was notably less garbage found than in years past, which is a positive trend in the community that they hope will continue.
