Kamloops residents and non-profits with ideas for local climate action initiatives are invited to apply for grant funding to help their projects come to life.

The City of Kamloops is accepting applications for the 2025 Climate Action Grant program, which supports projects that aim to enhance community resilience to climate change, decrease greenhouse gases, or support a healthy urban ecosystem.

“The goal is to empower citizens and community groups with resources to deliver projects that foster a climate-friendly community,” said Jaimi Garbutt, the city’s sustainability educator, in a statement.

The city said $20,000 of its climate action reserve will go towards grants valued at up to $2,000 each.

To be considered eligible for grant funding, projects must support priority actions in the city’s Community Climate Action plan.

Applicants must demonstrate how the project will directly benefit the community, improve resilience to climate change, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and foster community wellness or neighbourhood pride.

In 2024, the grant program funded 16 projects, including a trail restoration project, waste reduction programs in schools and climate education support.

Applications for the 2025 grants are being accepted until. Jan. 13, 2025. For more details or to apply, visit the City of Kamloops website.
