Shock scenes as Storm Bert turns South Hams roads into rivers

by · PlymouthLive

Flash flooding has turned roads into rivers in the South Hams as Storm Bert batters the region. The River Ludbrook at Ermington has bursts its banks and led to significant flooding in the area.

Pictures from James Crook show the torrent of water which has made roads impassable. The images show that one driver seems to have been caught out by the deluge and has been left stranded in the water.

A local flood alert is in place. The alert from the Environment Agency says: "Flooding is possible throughout Sunday. Heavy rain associated with Storm Bert is forecast over the weekend.

"Expected levels suggest that there will be flooding to low lying land and roads close. We expect rivers to remain high throughout Sunday and may issue further flood warnings if required."

There has been flash flooding all over other parts of Devon, with Newton Abbot under water in parts, while the Storm brought down trees in Exeter.
