Water supply disrupted after pipe burst in Thammanam

by · The Hindu

A pipeline supplying water to areas near Thammanam burst in the early hours of Wednesday throwing water supply into disarray. An official of the Kerala Water Authority said that water pumping from the Thammanam tank had been regulated after the incident leading to partial disruption in most areas close to Thammanam.

However, the faults have been detected. The KWA official said that initially there was only a hint that there was just one instance of the pipeline bursting. But leaks  were detected during the excavation works in more spots. These faults are being repaired.

The pipeline burst near the Thammanam Junction on the way to Pulleppady and excavating works have been slowed down due to the heavy traffic on the road. However, KWA is hopeful that the repair works will be completed within a short time and supply may be resumed at the earliest.

The Thammanam area had seen another pipeline burst about a week ago, which had also led to water supply disruption putting residents on edge on the news that there had been fresh damage in the pipeline.
