Three women reportedly went missing in a dense forest at Attikalam near Kuttampuzha in Kothamangalam on Thursday (November 28).

They had gone in search of their cows that had ventured into the forest in the afternoon. Six search and rescue teams that included personnel of the Forest department, police, and the Fire and Rescue Services department and residents were continuing search for the women at the time of filing this report around 12 midnight.

According to residents, the women were neighbours, and they entered the forest in search of their cows that had moved to the interiors. The family members of one woman were able to establish contact with her around 4 p.m. She reportedly informed them that they were trying to move into a safer place in view of the presence of elephants in the forest. Efforts to contact them later failed.

Forest officials said the search would continue through the night. Efforts are on to use drones with thermal cameras to locate the missing women, they added.
