Cuddalore district administration sets up 191 relief camps in view of heavy rain

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA total of 191 temporary relief camps have been set up across Cuddalore district, as of Wednesday, even as authorities brace for continued heavy rainfall over the next few days. In Cuddalore district, 242 earthmovers, 51 boats, 104 tree cutters, 28 generators and 58 motor pumps have been kept ready.
According to Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, as many as 28 cyclone shelters and 14 multi-purpose shelters have also been readied to evacuate people in case of emergency. Those residing in low-lying areas were asked to temporarily shift to higher ground or the relief centres that have been set up.
A 30-member team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 25 personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been positioned in the district.

Cuddalore district, which received a heavy spell of rain last night recorded an average of 52.69 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Vadakuthu in Kurunjipadi recorded the maximum of 108 mm followed by Cuddalore at 97 mm and Annamalai Nagar at 76.2 mm.
