Vengapally is State’s first ISO-certified Kudumbashree community development society

In yet another achievement for the Kudumbashree mission, Vengapally community development society (CDS) in Wayanad has received the ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) certification for its exemplary activities.

This is the first time in the State that a Kudumbashree CDS is getting this recognition for its work. All services as per the by-law prepared by the State government were provided by the Vengapally CDS with the objective of poverty alleviation through women empowerment. The certification is valid for three years.

The ISO certification is a recognition of the work put in by the CDS governing body under its chairperson Nisha Ramachandran in the past six months. All activities of the CDS are implemented according to a citizens’ charter, a statement from the Kudumbashree here on Wednesday said.

The CDS gave a whole lot of attention to handling of files, proper financial transactions and maintenance of registers, Kudumbashree neighbourhood group details, precise accounting system, and efficiency policy. The office system was improved so that any detail related to the Kudumbashree was available within three minutes. An internal audit was held every six months to heighten the efficiency of the accounting system.

The support of the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) was available to coordinate activities and improve the file system. A book on the activities of the CDS was also prepared with KILA backing. The panchayat governing body also extended full support. Efforts are on to get the ISO certification for other model CDSs in the district.

The ISO 9001-2015 certification is aimed at making the CDS services and resources available to the public in the most effective way through implementation of the quality management system.
