IMD issues heavy rainfall alert to coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh

by V. Kamalakara Rao · The HinduThe India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Andhra Pradesh till November 30.
In an alert sounded on November 27 (Wednesday), the IMD said the wet spell was likely under the influence of the “remnants of the deep depression” over the southwest Bay of Bengal, which was likely to develop into a cyclone.
At present, its impact was limited to the coastal parts of Tamil Nadu, and it would be experienced in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh too from November 28 (Thursday), the IMD bulletin said.
Meanwhile, a few coastal areas in Andhra Pradesh, including Visakhapatnam, experienced squally winds and light to moderate rainfall on November 27. Besides light to moderate rainfall, there would be heavy to heavy rainfall in the coastal areas between November 29 and 30.
As per the IMD bulletin, the deep depression moved north- northwestwards with a speed of 13 kmph. It would turn into a cyclone by the early hours of November 28.
Meanwhile, IMD scientist in Amaravati Karuna Sagar said an Orange alert (heavy to very heavy rain) was issued for November 28 to Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor districts, and Yellow alert (heavy rain) to Prakasam, Kadapa and Annamayya district.
There would be Orange alert for November 29 to Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor districts, and Yellow alert to Kadapa, Annamayya, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Kakinada districts.
For November 30, there would be Orange alert to Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa, Tirupati, Chittoor and Annamayya districts, and Yellow warning to Bapatla, Konaseema, Kakinada, Anakapalli, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.
Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea till further instructions.
