A two-day State-level seminar on bee-keeping, funded by National Bee Board, New Delhi, was organised by the Department of Agricultural Entomology, Agricultural College and Research Institute in Madurai on Monday and Tuesday.

P.P. Mahendran, Dean, in his inaugural address, emphasised the significance of bee-keeping as a profitable entrepreneurial venture with immense potential for growth. He urged farmers to take up this vocation to tap the wide market for honey.

The participants were given detailed instructions on government schemes available to support and promote beekeeping activities. The event featured a series of expert lectures and hands-on training sessions, equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills essential for successful beekeeping.

On the sidelines of the seminar, an exhibition featuring bee entrepreneurs was organised. It showcased a wide variety of honey and value-added products.

The event witnessed participation from 210 aspiring beekeepers representing 15 districts across the State.

An organiser said the event served as a platform for the participants to exchange knowledge, explore innovative beekeeping practices, and promote honey-based products in this promising field.
