by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduEven before the five maternal deaths in the Ballari District Hospital fades away from people’s memory, a 22-year-old woman from Afzalpur taluk in Kalaburagi district, who was delivered of a boy in the Afzalpur Taluk Hospital on Tuesday morning, died in the afternoon allegedly due to medical negligence after being shifted to the Kalaburagi District Hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Bhagyashree of Havalga village.
The kin of the deceased has alleged that Bhagyashree kept bleeding after delivery but the doctors in the Afzalpur Taluk Hospital did not treat her and referred her to the District Hospital.
After she developed labour pain on Monday afternoon, Bhagyashree was admitted to the Afzalpur Taluk Hospital where she gave birth to a male baby on Tuesday morning.
As the patient kept bleeding after delivery, the doctors in the Taluk Hospital referred her to the District Hospital.
FIR lodged
Meanwhile, husband of the deceased Shivaji has lodged a case against the hospital alleging negligence on the part of the duty doctors and the authorities concerned.
In his complaint, he has said that due to absence of doctors in the Afzalpur Taluk Hospital, a nurse handled the delivery process.
When the patient was shifted to the Kalaburagi District Hospital, again, due to absence of senior doctors, the patient was attended by junior duty doctors.
She breathed her last as she was deprived of proper treatment, the complaint said.
Shivaji has demanded stern action against the hospital authorities.
Hospital denies charge
Refuting the allegations of medical negligence, the hospital authorities and District Health Officer Sharanabasappa Kyatnal have said that the doctors are not to be blamed for the death of the patient.
A team of doctors made all-out efforts for nearly two hours to save the patient but she was brought in a critical condition where it was difficult to record even her blood pressure, pulse and heartbeat, they added.
