Kerala, especially its central parts, is likely to receive a few intense spells of rain during this weekend triggered by the remnants of the weather systems over the Bay of Bengal.

As per the latest weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal is unlikely to intensify into a cyclone as per the current synoptic conditions.

The system may maintain its intensity of deep depression until Friday morning and weaken gradually into a depression by Friday evening. It is likely to cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram as a depression with a wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph on Saturday, said the bulletin.

The system that enters as a weak system in Tamil Nadu due to high wind shear along the Tamil Nadu coast may also move towards the west coast, triggering some intense spells in central and north Kerala. An orange alert has been issued for Thrissur and Malappuram on Saturday and a very heavy rainfall alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram on Sunday by the IMD.
