Collector reviews cyclone preparedness measures in Cuddalore
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduCollector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar on Thursday inspected several areas across Cuddalore district to assess the cyclone preparedness.
According to a press release, the Collector accompanied by officials of local bodies inspected the desilting of the Paasimuthan Odai at Keezhamoongiladi, undertaken to increase its carrying capacity and address waterlogging in surrounding areas.
The Collector also reviewed the arrangements being made to evacuate people from flood-prone areas in Parangipettai near Chidambaram. Special monitoring is being carried out in critical areas, with officials on standby to address any reported issues.
The administration has also undertaken a host of measures in and around flood-prone areas to prevent waterlogging. Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea, he said.
Mr. Senthil Kumar also inspected the cyclone shelter at Thillaividangan panchayat in the district. He checked whether adequate amenities have been provided at the centre to accommodate people in case of emergencies.
Exams postponed
Due to incessant rain, all examinations of Annamalai University and its affiliated colleges in Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, and Mayiladuthurai districts scheduled for November 29 are postponed. Revised dates of the examination will be intimated later, according to Registrar.
