Shanahan MacInnes: Body found on remote Scottish island in search for missing hairdresser, 28

The body of a missing hairdresser has been found on a remote Scottish island following an "extremely tragic accident."

Shanahan MacInnes, 28, went missing around 1.30am on Friday in the Tindill Road area of Balivanich on the Isle of Benbecula, in the Outer Hebrides. A major rescue operation was launched with more than 60 members of the public, police, the coastguard, and emergency services all searching for the missing woman.

Despite the huge search effort, her body was discovered on Sunday afternoon. Her family have shared their heartbreak at the discovery as they paid tribute to their "beautiful darling Shanahan."

She was last seen wearing a burgundy tracksuit and white trainers with a black Nike tick. Her family had posted on social media that she had left behind her car, purse, phone, car and keys as they urged locals to be on the lookout for her. It was believed she had other clothes with her and may have changed into a black North Face jacket and black trainers with a gold buckle.

Tragically, the search ended with the discovery of a body near at round 1.05pm on Sunday, November 24 in the Aird area of Benbecula. Her death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. Shanahan's family released a statement on social media saying they are "absolutely heartbroken and devastated".

 They continued: "Shanahan's passing was an extremely tragic accident. It was nobody's fault... We are extremely upset... We would appreciate if we could all be left to grieve our beautiful darling Shanahan."

The Shore Room Hair and Beauty, where Shanahan worked, announced it would be closing the salon until further notice. "We appreciate all the love and support we have received at this time," they wrote on Facebook. scotland>Police Scotland said in a statement: "Around 1.05pm on Sunday, 24 November, 2024, officers were made aware that a body of a woman had been found in the Aird area of Benbecula.

"Formal identification has still to take place, however the family of 28-year-old Shanahan MacInnes, who was missing from Balivanich, has been made aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
