Queen Camilla health update as major diagnosis confirmed
by Lydia Royce, Russell Myers, Matt Clemenson · Wales OnlineQueen Camilla was diagnosed with pneumonia, it has been revealed. At a state visit by the Emir of Qatar and his wife the Queen disclosed that her recent chest infection was a form of the lung condition.
Due to post-viral fatigue Camilla is skipping outdoor events during the Qatari visit following her doctors' advice to allow more time for recovery. Although she didn't require hospitalisation the Queen is experiencing episodes of extreme tiredness.
It's understood that Camilla's condition was viral, not bacterial, and she has since recovered from pneumonia. The Queen, 77, missed the ceremonial welcome at Horse Guards Parade on Tuesday due to her health.
This news follows the Palace's confirmation that Camilla would miss the welcome ceremony during the Qatari state visit as she was struggling with significantly reduced energy levels after her chest infection. A Buckingham Palace spokesman stated: "The Queen has been suffering from a viral infection which has been diagnosed as pneumonia. Her Majesty has not required hospital treatment but is experiencing lingering side effects, chiefly suffering extreme bouts of tiredness which has meant the need for greater flex in her working diary," reports the Mirror. "Her symptoms have been persistent for a number of weeks but fortunately she is well enough to attend several engagements for the Qatari state visit and looks forward to returning to a full schedule as soon as possible."
The Queen has had to miss out on a number of key events due to ongoing health issues, particularly in November when she was notably absent from several Remembrance Day commemorations. She was unable to attend the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance as well as the traditional Cenotaph wreath-laying with King Charles and other dignitaries present in her place. Instead the Queen opted to commemorate privately at her residence.
Last week saw the Queen withdraw from attending the Royal Variety Performance. Buckingham Palace at that point said she "continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms", which led to her resting as per medical advice.
Meanwhile this marks the beginning of a more active week for the Princess of Wales who has been gradually stepping up her public engagements following the completion of her chemotherapy treatment in the summer. The princess is set to host her yearly Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday where she is anticipated to be accompanied by her children and husband.
