Police name girl who died after medical episode at rugby club as family pay tribute
by Jonathon Hill · Wales OnlineTributes have been paid to a 14-year-old girl who died after a medical episode at a rugby club last week. Seren Jenkins, from Tycroes in Ammanford, died in hospital following the incident at the local rugby club on Friday, November 15, following a medical emergency on the field at Manor Road.
Paramedics and the air ambulance rushed to the scene at Amman United and the girl was airlifted to hospital from the field. She died in hospital the following morning.
In a statement on Friday, November 22, Seren’s family paid tribute to her and thanked the community for donating more than £8,000. They said they would donate some of it to asthma services.
They said: “She was a loving daughter, big and little sister. Seren lived her short life to the full and was a budding artist, rugby player, and social media lover. Seren was loved by all who knew her and no doubt will also be remembered for her sense of humour.”
Seren’s family thanked the emergency services who rushed to the scene to try to save her. They added: "We would also like to take this opportunity to thank people for their kind words and support at this horrific time but would now like to ask for this time to grieve in private."
Seren's friend Cari Bradshaw, who organised the fundraiser, said: “Seren was suddenly taken from us all on Saturday, November 16. She’s left a big hole in our hearts and we miss her very very much.” Seren’s family said they would also use the proceeds to donate to the Wales Air Ambulance and for a possible memorial for Seren’s friends to remember her.
A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Police were called on Friday evening, November 15, to a report of a medical emergency in the Ammanford area. A female teenager became unwell and was taken to hospital where, sadly, she passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning.
"Our thoughts remain with the family at this difficult time. The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner."
The Welsh Ambulance Service said an ambulance, first responders, and an air ambulance were called to the club at 9.55pm. The club postponed all games last weekend as a mark of respect. A statement from the club said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the club will be closed – and all games are postponed – out of respect."
