A mum-of-three who was complaining of headaches has been given just weeks to live after receiving an 'absolutely devastating' diagnosis. Sharon Bennett was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2023.

Following a course of chemotherapy, Sharon, 49, was taken in for surgery eight weeks ago. Natasha Austin, 31, her eldest daughter, said: "She was supposed to just wait for the surgery to heal and then undergo radiotherapy to make sure there were no rogue cancer cells."

But three weeks ago the grandmother of two, from Crewe, was back in A&E after suffering from crippling headaches. The mum was given a tests and scans before doctors delivered the devastating news. Natasha continued: "They did a CT scan which showed leptomeningeal cancer."

Leptomeningeal cancer affects the tissue which surrounds the brain and spinal cord and those diagnosed with the disease have a poor prognosis. Natasha, from Nantwich, has set up a fundraising page for Sharon, who is also mum to Caley, 20, and Maya, seven, to support the children when she is no longer around, reports Cheshire Live.

Natasha said: "It has been absolutely devastating. It's going to be difficult when she's not here. Cayley will become Maya's legal guardian, and she's not working at the moment. She had to quit her job as a carer when my mum became really poorly from chemotherapy. I want to make sure Cayley and Maya are looked after."
