The fitness watch I have been swearing by for months now is on sale as part of John Lewis' Black Friday deals. Garmin's Vivoactive 5 smartwatch usually retails for £229.00, but for a limited time, you can grab it with a 30% discount.
The deal saves you £30. But despite this, I paid full price and thought it was worth every penny. I've had the watch since the beginning of August and it has helped my training - as a runner and rugby player - immensely. The watch can be bought here.
You can read my original review of the watch below.
It was an impressive eight days in when I got a vibration off my new watch. It was telling me it had a 10% battery left and reminding me to stick it on charge whenever I could.
Had I known that Garmin’s Vivoactive 5 smartwatch boosted such a long-lasting battery life, I would have forked out the money for it long before. I was constantly being reminded my previous Apple Watch needed to charge, what felt like, every few hours. This wasn’t ideal for me as someone who is a year deep into marathon training.
The Garmin watch, which I bought from Liverpool ONE’s John Lewis, set me back £229.99 and will continue to cost me £2 a month for insurance for as long as needed. Despite only having the GPS smartwatch for two weeks, I feel like it has already massively improved my training - not just for long-distance running, but at the gym and on and off the rugby pitch.
Featuring a bright colour display, the watch is jam-packed with health and fitness features to help you gain a better understanding of your body. So far, I have been tracking my daily steps more accurately than ever.
I've also been tracking how many minutes of intensity exercise I’ve done, the recommended recovery period following said minutes and how my sleep, or lack of, is tracking. There are some more complex features I have yet to explore, including my body battery and HRV [heart rate variability] status.
However, I was able to remove these from the home screen and replace them with the likes of calorie counting to make the watch more suited to my needs. I have also found the watch to be my go-to option for when I am running short distances or sprint training.
The watch has music on the go, connects to my Spotify, and has Garmin Pay - everything I could possibly need when I leave the house, meaning I don’t have to awkwardly carry my phone around with me.
Besides the actual technology itself, I am personally fond of the physicality of the watch. From the initial glance, it doesn’t exactly scream that it's a fitness watch, making it perfect for me to wear out and about and to work.
It is available in orchid, ivory, blue and black - the latter of which I opted for. I appreciate the price can be steep but the watch has racked up four stars on John Lewis and has nearly 250 positive reviews - all for good reason.
