Maynooth University is seeking tenders for a new €10m sports science building.

A planning application for the facility was approved by Kildare County Council.

The development will be on a 0.38ha site, on lands located beside the Phoenix Sports and Restaurant building.

The development is comprised of the partial demolition of 350 sqm of the south-eastern section of the existing Phoenix sports centre and restaurant building.

This is to facilitate the construction of a new three-storey sports science extension (3,427sqm).
The facility will be comprised of lobby and reception areas, a general gym, a sports hall, research and teaching labs and administrative offices.

Teaching, student, and staff facilities are included.
The development also includes removal of an existing cycle storage area and the provision of a new covered bike storage.

The designs include public lighting, signage and necessary excavation works.
