Epilepsy Ireland have been announced as the 2024 beneficiaries of the annual "Petermarkathon" which is run by the renowned Irish salon, Peter Mark.

Peter Mark has 69 salons across Ireland, and as part of the Petermarkathon, the organisation encourages all salons to take part in fundraising activities in support of a chosen charity. Over the last 13 years, the annual fundraising event has supported a range of organisations.

This year, they have chosen Epilepsy Ireland, with activities set to take place in local salons across the week of the 21st -28th October. Speaking on their support for Epilepsy Ireland and the annual Petermarkathon, Peter Mark CEO Peter O’Rourke, said “We began the Petermarkathon in 2011 and over the years, our incredible salons have raised over €800,000 for our charity partners. We are delighted to be supporting the work of Epilepsy Ireland this year and are appealing to our customers and their local communities to get behind their local Peter Mark salon’s efforts this year.

“When selecting Epilepsy Ireland as this year’s beneficiary, we learnt so much about the work of their local Community Resource Officers for people with epilepsy and their families in local communities across Ireland. With over 45,000 people living with epilepsy across Ireland, the condition is one of the most common neurological conditions in the country and is incredibly individual. We’ve learnt how the organisation responds to over 20,000 contacts per year and provides vital information to the wider community around the realities of epilepsy, as well as providing education around seizure first aid.

“Knowing that the funds raised from this year’s Petermarkathon will support this work is something we are very proud of indeed and we hope the efforts of our salons will help continue Epilepsy Ireland’s journey towards a society where no person’s life is limited by epilepsy.”

Epilepsy Ireland CEO, Peter Murphy thanked Peter Mark for their support, commenting, “We are delighted to be the beneficiaries of this year’s Petermarkathon. It is an incredible event driven by the passion and commitment of everyone who works at Peter Mark. We are community-based organisations so having the support of a community-based business such as Peter Mark is a fantastic opportunity to not only raise the funds we require to continue our work, but to raise further awareness of epilepsy within local communities across Ireland.

“We look forward to seeing local salon’s efforts in support of Epilepsy Ireland and would like to thank everyone at Peter Mark for their support for our work.”
