Taylor Swift breakfast drink 'can help protect you from illnesses and diseases'

Taylor Swift is a global superstar with a massive fan base and has a daily routine that many try to emulate - right down to her diet. One staple in her diet is likely already in your fridge, and the 34 year old 'Fortnight' singer reportedly starts her day with it.

In an interview with Bon Appetit, Taylor revealed her "go-to breakfast" includes a glass of orange juice, a beverage readily available at most supermarkets for a reasonable price. Not only does it hydrate, but it also offers numerous health benefits.

Orange juice is rich in vitamin C, an essential nutrient for maintaining healthy skin, blood vessels, bones and cartilage, as per NHS guidelines. Its high vitamin C content boosts the immune system, helps combat common illnesses like colds, and shortens sickness duration - particularly beneficial during winter when norovirus, coronavirus, and flu are widespread.

There's also evidence suggesting foods rich in vitamin C can aid anaemia patients by enhancing natural iron absorption. Vitamin C transforms iron into a form more easily absorbed by our bodies, maximising the benefits from our food.

Furthermore, oranges are loaded with natural plant compounds, according to Healthline. The fruit's flavonoids contribute to its antioxidant properties, offering better protection against conditions such as heart disease and cancer, reports the Mirror.

A 150ml glass of unsweetened orange juice can be counted as one portion, according to NHS guidelines. However, it's worth noting that no matter how much you guzzle down, juices like orange juice can only be counted once per day.

But before you start chugging litres of OJ, bear in mind that despite its health benefits, it should be consumed in moderation due to its high sugar content - even if it is natural fruit sugar. Also, for those who suffer from heartburn, the citric acid found in orange juice - and also in lemons, limes and grapefruits - may exacerbate your symptoms.
