One tactic includes using scents that are pleasant to humans but repulsive to spiders. Discover how to stop spiders from invading your home this autumn.

Flooring Hut's CEO Paul Brewster comments: "Autumn is reportedly the most common time for spiders to enter UK homes, especially from September to October as male spiders seek mates and warmth. During this time, you will most likely notice more spiders in your home. Fortunately, there are a number of things you can do to keep spiders out."

For Paul's advice on spider-proofing your home, continue reading.

1. Keep your floors clean regularly.

Regularly sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping your floors can help to eliminate any food sources or webs that might attract spiders. If you have carpets, it's important to deep clean them regularly to get rid of any eggs or pests that may have made themselves at home.

2. Seal gaps and cracks.

Spiders can find their way into homes through small gaps and cracks in flooring, walls, and baseboards. It's a good idea to regularly check your floors, particularly around the edges, and seal any cracks or openings.

This not only helps to keep spiders at bay but also prevents other pests from getting in.

3. Use essential oils.

Certain essential oils, such as peppermint and eucalyptus, are natural spider deterrents. You might want to consider adding a few drops to your floor cleaner or making a diluted spray to use around baseboards and corners.

This will help to ward off unwanted spiders and leave your home smelling fresh.

4. Strong smells.

Building on from essential oils, strong smells are a natural method to discourage spiders from entering your home. Scents like lemon, lime, oranges, and anything with a strong citrus aroma, are known to repel spiders.

5. Flooring materials.

Some types of flooring are less likely to provide a home for insects than others. For instance, luxury vinyl tiles, when properly installed and maintained, offer a less welcoming environment for spiders compared to carpet.

If you're considering updating your flooring, this might be something to think about.

By following these steps, you can significantly decrease the chances of spiders finding their way into your home this autumn.
