West Midlands school closures day two after new snow and ice warning

More schools in the West Midlands are closed today due to further snow overnight and icy conditions this morning. Educational institutions have issued updates to pupils and parents on a second day of disruption.

It comes as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for ice today. While temperatures are set to drop to -3C tonight.

Snow and ice has affected schools all over the region. BirminghamLive will add more closed schools to the list below when they are confirmed.

School closures or partial school closures with later open times are listed here:

Birmingham:

Colmers School and Sixth Form College, Rednal - Due to adverse weather conditions we are making the decision to have a delayed start to the day for student and staff safety. Therefore, we will open the school site at 10am for all students. During this period of time we will be making site checks and decisions. Further communication will be sent via text message so please keep your phones close by

Black Country:

Halesowen CofE Primary School - We are sorry but school is closed today (Wednesday) we will reassess the situation later but currently the paths are too slippy and dangerous under foot.

Short Heath Junior, Willenhall - Sorry. Due to snow, school is closed today. Wednesday.

The Phoenix Collegiate, West Bromwich - To all Parents and Students: School closed due to weather conditions, Thank you.

Oldbury Academy - Unfortunately due to staff ratios we are unable to open school today, whilst the site is safe, the limited number of staff that can get to site this morning we regrettably have had to take the decision to close. We sincerely apologise and fully expect to be open tomorrow

Perryfields Academy - Delayed start - After the overnight freeze we are delaying the start of the day by one hour to allow the site team more time to make the grounds as safe as possible. Students should arrive for 9.45am into form with no line up, then straight to period 2.

Wood Green Academy in Wednesbury - Unfortunately we have had to take the difficult decision to close the site to students today (20.11.24) with the ice under the fresh snow the site is currently not safe.

Holly Lodge, Smethwick - School is closed due to adverse weather conditions.

Shireland Collegiate Academy, Smethwick - Following the school closure today (Weds 20 Nov) we will be offering online learning. Your child’s class teacher will post their lesson to the subject teams channel, this will either be an independent task or a live streamed lesson. The first lesson will begin at 9.15. We will then follow the normal school day timings. Thank you.

Walsall Academy - School will be closed this morning. Students need to be in for 11.15am and go straight to PT. Take care!
