There are multiple flood alerts in place across the West Midlands and Warwickshire as residents are warned of travel disruption and the risk of flooding due to heavy rains. The Environment Agency has issued a list of warnings ranging from a simple alert to a full flood warning.

A Met Office yellow weather warning for rain is also in place across Birmingham, and the south of the UK. Environment Agency offiicials have warned that flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible in certain areas of the West Midlands and Warwickshire.

There is also significant travel disruption across the city and wider West Midlands, with train cancellations, road closures and bus diversions in place this morning, Friday September 27. Read our full list of travel disruption in our round-up, here.

Local flooding hotspots include the River Blythe in Warwickshire, the River Anker, Upper Tame and the River Stour. Members of the public have been warned to avoid using low lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

A number of people have been rescued by emergency services after attempting to drive through flood water. West Midlands Railway has also closed the rail lines between Shrewsbury and the Black Country, warning that closures are likely to stay in place for most of the day due to flooding on the tracks. The rail body added that overnight thefts of cables has also caused the closure.
