Blood Tribe chief says federal government failed to properly consult First Nations on child welfare reform deal

'This rejection sends a clear message: we will not accept half measures or temporary solutions,' said Chief Roy Fox

The Blood Tribe on Monday welcomed the rejection by First Nations chiefs last week of a landmark child-welfare reform deal with the federal government, saying the agreement undermines its authority to make decisions affecting its people.

First Nations chiefs voted Thursday against a $47.8-billion deal, reached in July with the Canadian government, during a special three-day chiefs assembly in Calgary hosted by the Assembly of First Nations.
