Woman dies from injuries after struck crossing southeast intersection

A 57-year-old woman died Friday night after she was hit by a pickup at a southeast intersection.

Calgary police said the woman was crossing near the intersection of 50 Avenue and 22 Street S.E. at around 8:15 p.m. when she was struck by a black GMC Sierra headed eastbound on 50th Avenue.

The 38-year-old male driver hit the woman as she was walking across the street, police said in a release. She was transported to hospital but died from her injuries a short time later.

The driver of the pickup remained on scene and was uninjured.

Speed or impairment are not believed to be factors in the collision, police said.
