Holness, Golding congratulate Trump on victory in US presidential election
· The GleanerPrime Minister Dr Andrew Holness has congratulated Donald Trump on securing victory in Tuesday's presidential election in the US.
"Jamaica remains committed to strengthening our close and enduring partnership with the United States and looks forward to advancing the goals of growth, stability, and prosperity for our people," Holness wrote on social media site X.
Meanwhile, in offering his congratulations, Opposition Leader Mark Golding said, "Looking forward to continued strong relations and collaboration between Jamaica and the United States. Best wishes as you embark on this new term."
Republican Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States, defeating Kamala Harris to secure his return to the White House.
Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency, in an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the US Capitol, was convicted of felony charges and survived two assassination attempts.

Republicans reclaimed control of the Senate, picking up seats in West Virginia and Ohio. Top House races are focused in New York and California, where Democrats are trying to claw back some of the 10 or so seats where Republicans have made surprising gains in recent years.
