SEVILLE HERITAGE Expo 2024 promises to provide an enriching and interactive cultural experience for students across Jamaica.

The annual educational event will be held at the historic Seville Heritage Park in St Ann’s Bay, St Ann, on October 16 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Now in its 26th year, the expo has become a platform for educating and entertaining students of all ages, with the goal of fostering a deeper understanding of their history and culture.

Event organiser Joan Seagears said that students will be immersed in the tangible and intangible aspects of Jamaica’s culture and history under the tagline ‘Bringing the Old to the New’.

“We usually have a varied number of activities to include exhibitions that will highlight history, culture and also some exhibitors who are there to showcase their business and how it could be a great career move for students, especially high school students,” she noted.

Among the major attractions will be simulated archaeological digs, and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) will be highlighting Taino and African cultures.

One new addition this year is a musical exhibition, with the legendary Fab 5 band taking the audience on a journey through Jamaica’s musical history from ska, mento, rocksteady, reggae, dancehall, and culminating with African beats.

There will also be a robotics presentation by a group of students to showcase the innovation of the country’s youth.

The expo will feature support from various organisations, including the JNHT and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, both of which will contribute to the exhibitions.

Admission for Seville Heritage Expo 2024 is $1,000 for children and $1,500 for adults.

“I would say that if you really want to understand your history, know your history, get excited about your history, if you want our young people to develop – because any country that preserves and embraces their history will be successful – then [Seville Heritage Expo] is the place for them to be,” Seagears underscored.
