JPs contribute tablets to rural students

by · The Gleaner

At least 47 students from various primary schools across rural St Catherine have benefitted from donations of tablets courtesy of the St Catherine Justices of the Peace Association.

The association made its contribution to education through the institutions during a function held at the Lions Centre in Old Harbour on Friday.

“We are living at a time when children do research, therefore these tablets will benefit them in their thirst and search for knowledge. We do implore you to use them wisely,” Custos of St Catherine Icylin Golding said.

The occasion saw representation from students and teachers from Guys Hill High School, Seafield Primary and Infant School, Mount Nebo Primary, Kitson Town Primary, Guanaboa Vale Primary, Carron Hall High, Good Hope Primary and Infant, and Jubilee Town Primary, which were numbered among the rural schools gifted with the tablets to aid in their overall academic development.

The recipients were encouraged to use the gifts for positive and proper purposes and teachers were told to help supervise that effort.

Christobal Wright, chairman of the association, expressed gratitude to Smart Mobile Solutions for its partnership in providing the tablets.

“It is important that we observe the importance of having the students equipped to do their work at school, therefore the partnership is very important,” Wright said.

Sherine Moore-Kelly, principal of the Seafield Primary and Infant School, said the equipment were very important additions for her students.

“At a time when students are challenged to research, these tablets will help them to access more information in a timely manner,” Moore-Kelly said.

The donation has been valued approximately at $400,000.
