Police have launched an investigation after a schoolgirl and woman were found dead inside a home in Greater Manchester.

Emergency services responded to a concern for welfare call at the property in Salford at around 10.30am today, where they then discovered the bodies of the girl, eight, and a 40-year-old woman.

Their next of kin have been informed and are now being supported by specialist officers, Greater Manchester Police said.

A probe is underway to determine the circumstances around the deaths, but officers have said they are not 'actively looking' for anyone in relation to the incident.

The road and area around the home remained cordoned off this evening.
