Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are both towering figures politically, but what's the lowdown on their actual stature?

The candidates' heights first surfaced as a talking point back in September, when it emerged Harris had stood behind a smaller podium at the presidential debate.

Days before, Trump took to social media to speak up about Harris' height, saying no accommodations should be made to make any discrepancies between the two less obvious.

An official from the Trump team would later mock the smaller podium produced days later, labeling it 'the kids' table at Thanksgiving.'

The podium adjustments were made to make both candidates look more equal in split-screens - but what's the real scoop on the candidates' standing?

How tall is Kamala Harris?

A few months before replacing Joe Biden on the ballot, Harris joked with famed journalist Katie Couric about both of their heights being incorrectly listed on Wikipedia. She actually stands at a modest 5'4".

At the time, the website erroneously pegged Harris's height at 5-foot-2 - leading her to issue a correction.

'That is absolutely incorrect,' Harris said with a smile toward the start of the January interview after Couric had told her she was relieved to find 'Kamala [was] short like [her].'

Couric - usually seen sitting - stands at about 5-foot-3.   

'With heels, which I always wear, I’m 5-7½, thank you very much,' Harris clarified, inflating the figure that many in recent months have gotten wrong.

In actuality, she stands at a slightly less modest 5'4", she revealed - jokingly adding to the number further.

'I am 5'4" and a quarter - sometimes 5'4" and a half,' she said.

The statement seemingly put to bed then-swirling speculation.

How tall is Donald Trump?

In contrast, Trump is one of the tallest presidents in history.

Bested only by literal and figurative giants like Abraham Lincoln and Lyndon B. Johnson, the conservative measures in at an impressive 6-foot-3 - though there is some skepticism surrounding that fact.

Despite this, the number has appeared consistently across the ex-commander-in-chief's medical reports and mentions in the media - with photos show him standing slightly taller than old rival Joe Biden, who is 6-foot even.

Height also runs in the family, with son Baron now standing at an eye-watering 6-foot-nine and father Fred famously being described as a tall, imposing figure.

His supermodel wife Melania, meanwhile, measures in at 5'11" - making it all the more believable Trump's claims about his height are true, given their height discrepancy.

The difference between the two, however, is negligible when compared with that of the two candidates - an almost footlong gulf that seemingly caused Trump to speak up this past September.

Days before the debate, he said any accommodations to make Harris look taller would be tantamount to 'cheating' - showing how he values his physical size just as he does his larger-than-life persona

'No boxes or artificial lifts will be allowed to stand on during my upcoming debate with Comrade Kamala Harris,' he wrote on TruthSocial at the time, pointing out how former NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg was denied such an allowance.

'We had this out previously with former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg when he was in a debate, and he was not allowed a "lift,"' Trump wrote.

'It would be a form of cheating, and the Democrats cheat enough. "You are who you are," it was determined!'

Will Harris be the shortest-ever president if elected?

If voted into the Oval Office this week, Harris will find herself tied for the dubious honor of being the shortest president in US history.

The other party to share the accolade is James Madison, a Founding Father who served as the fourth-ever president, after his much larger contemporaries George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.

That said, Harris is still above the average height of women in the US according to the CDC - who put the median measure at 5-3½.

Harris eclipses this only slightly, but if her word is bond, still makes the cut.
