Two crooks who tried to rob a pharmacy received instant karma when the clerk turned out to be a black belt in jujitsu.

The pair had planned to hold up a chemist's shop in Balneario Camboriu, in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, on September 14.

But unknown to the hapless robbers, the mild-mannered-looking clerk was actually a martial arts expert.

The clerk pinned one of the robbers to the floor and punched him multiple times in the head

While the crooks managed to ransack the shelves, when they tried to flee the clerk seized the opportunity to dish out some justice.

CCTV footage from inside the store shows him knock the first crook, a girl, to the ground with a flurry of punches.

He then takes her partner in crime out before putting him in a headlock.

Finally, he straddles the crook's chest pinning his arms to the ground and punches him over and over again around the head until the clip ends.

Military Police told local media that the male suspect was arrested but his female accomplice had fled by the time officers arrives.

Later the clerk told police the pair had pretended to be armed and had threatened to shoot him if he did not hand over the cash in the till.
