Father whose ex falsified DNA test to say baby wasn't his, speaks out

A father has today spoken of his torment of having to wait 15 months to meet his daughter after his ex-girlfriend falsified a DNA test to claim their baby wasn't his.

Georgina Saville edited a DNA test result picture and subsequently lied on a birth certificate to say her new boyfriend, Danny Mellows, was the father of her newborn daughter and not her ex, Kyle Fitton.

The 25-year-old is alleged to have misled Mr Fitton, 26, to deter him from launching legal action to see his children, but she has denied this, saying it was in a bid to get his solicitor to stop emailing her.

Now, speaking for the first time since the ordeal, Mr Fitton has revealed how his ex-girlfriend's scheming has left him 'broken' and said the process is something 'no man or woman should ever have to go through'.

'It's taken so long to get to this stage and to actually get to the truth,' he said.

'It's just a massive sense of relief. I have been quite upset, stressed all the time. It's one of the hardest weeks that I have had to deal with.'

Saville, who already had a daughter with Mr Fitton, claimed their newborn was not his in March 2022, before presenting a fake DNA test and incorrectly filling out a birth certificate which named Mr Mellows as the baby's father.

After a trial at Southampton Crown Court, a judge warned Saville that she could face jail after being convicted of perverting the course of public justice and wilfully making a false declaration as to a birth.

Mr Fitton's children are now under the legal guardianship of his mother, following lengthy court proceedings, meaning he gets to see them every day.

The mechanic said he looks forward to returning from work and hearing them shout 'daddy' in what he said is 'the best part of my day'.

Mr Fitton, from Southampton, admitted his relationship with Saville has had repercussions on other romantic relationships.

'When I split from Georgina, it was very difficult for me to get into any relationship,' he said.

'It has made me overthink things, I'd shut myself off from everyone. I was dealing with it on my own.

'I started doubting myself, it really affected me, my mental health. I couldn't sleep. It was constant and it was her way or the highway.

'I unfortunately followed her rules but I followed them for [their eldest daughter] at that time — to be a dad and to make sure she was happy.'

Despite their toxic relationship, he revealed he was 'very happy' when he found out Saville was pregnant in the spring of 2021, but 'constant arguments' made it too hard to stay together.

'The reason I kept going back to her was because of [their eldest child],' he said.

'I wanted to be a family, I wanted to try my hardest and have that family, as one unit.'

Detailing how difficult she made life for him once they split up, he continued: 'It was really hard, no matter what I did I was in the wrong.

'If I went to go out and see her she wouldn't answer the door, if I didn't text her back in five minutes she would call me a dead-beat dad.

'She got very aggressive on the phone and if I was working and not replying she would be on the phone to mum - it was just crazy.

'I think one day I had 26 missed calls in the space of five minutes.'

Mr Fitton paid tribute to his mother, Jayne Fitton, who acted as the mediator between the ex-partners as any relevant information about his girls would get relayed to him.

On whether Saville's claims of the baby's paternity made him doubt he was the father, he said: 'There was never any question.

'I knew she was not Danny's from day one. It was quite frustrating — she was almost doing that to get at me.

'I knew she was mine and I had to prove this just to get the truth. [Saville] was trying to make my life difficult from day one in court. I had constant allegations against me.

'I just got to the point when I just thought what is going to happen next. I had to keep fighting for the truth and I stuck by it.'

Mr Fitton revealed he was worried Saville might carry out the threat she made of taking the children and ensuring he wouldn't 'ever' see them again.

'It scared me because we believed she was actually going to leave the country at one point,' he said.

'It absolutely scared me. I thought I was going to have my girls taken from me and nothing could be done.'

He said while his two daughters' bond was now blossoming, he had to wait a heart-aching 15 months to meet his baby.

'The bond between them now is ecstatic,' he continued.

'[The newborn] had never met me, it took some time to bond that relationship. But now it's amazing. We were finally united before her second birthday.'

On why it had taken so long, he said: '[Saville] said I was never allowed to meet [the baby], but mum was. Even if I said to mum [to say to Saville I wanted to] it would be a no.

'That's when I had enough of it, I said I need to do something and that's when I started court proceedings. And then it took a long, long time.'

He continued: 'She has shown no remorse or insight about the impact this could have on the kids.'

However, he remained positive for the future and detailed his now 'amazing' daily routine which involves both of his children.

'I'm around mum's every night, I'm there at the weekend - it's every day,' he said.

'Every day it's absolutely amazing. I took [the eldest] to her first day of school, it was just amazing.

'It's just a sense of relief they are there, they are happy and they are safe.'
