Moment drunk Amazon worker, 36, drives wrong way along carriageway

by · Mail Online

This is the moment a man drove an Amazon delivery van the wrong way down a dual carriageway slip road and even dragged the Good Samaritan who tried to stop him.

Shocking footage shows Adrian Dumitrache, 36, making a sharp u-turn off the A34 near Bicester, Oxfordshire and colliding with cars coming down the entry slip road.

He then tries to get away by mounting the grass verge but is confronted by a concerned motorist.

The man in his 50s can be seen approaching the van on foot and was able to remove the keys from the ignition bringing it to a stop.

But Dumitrache, who was three times over the drink drive limit, then drives away with the man still holding onto his van.

The Good Samaritan broke his leg in the horror incident on June 21 and required surgery and ongoing treatment.

Dumitrache from Derby was on Tuesday jailed for two years and ten months at Oxford Crown Court with Thames Valley Police releasing the shocking footage today.

He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving a motor vehicle when above the alcohol limit.

The 36-year-old was also disqualified from driving for four years and five months.

Investigating officer PC Harry Welch, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: 'I hope this sentence deters anyone thinking they can get behind the wheel whilst over the limit.

'The actions of one can have a detrimental effect on the lives of other and Dumitrache is an example of this.

'He was found with 110 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

'He seriously injured someone and put other lives in danger and I am glad that he has been convicted.

'Thames Valley's Roads Policing department is committed to making the roads in your communities safer.'
