A teenager who returned home to find his mom being stabbed to death told how he desperately tried in vain to fight off her attacker.

Wioleta Murawski was fatally knifed by her husband Ryszard Murawski, 44, in the backyard of their Long Island home.

He pleaded guilty to the January murder on Tuesday and now faces 22 years in jail.

The couple's 15-year-old son told police he arrived home from a friend's house and heard his mother 'screaming for help'.

As he entered the property he saw his father plunge the serrated weapon into his mom.

He charged at him and jumped on his back, allowing his mom to break free.

She managed to stumble across the street before collapsing with her son at her side. She was raced to  Good Samaritan Hospital where she later died.

Meanwhile Murawski jumped in a black GMC pick-up truck and fled the scene.

Police attempted to pull him over, but he instead led them on a wild chase for  more than seven miles before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into the side of a building.

They added that the brutal attack was captured on the couple's home surveillance system.

'This is a tragic case of domestic violence that ended with the senseless death of Wioleta Murawski and horrific trauma to their child. This defendant will now have to pay for his actions in prison,' said District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.

'Wioleta dedicated her life to raising her sons and giving them a brighter future,' a GoFundMe reads.

'She was an outgoing person who gave her best. She was an amazing friend who always helped without expecting anything in return.'

The fundraiser was hoping to raise enough money for a memorial and to return her remains to Poland, as well as for counselling for her children.

Murawski pleaded guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony, before judge the Honorable Karen M. Wilutis.

He is due back in court for sentencing on October 17.
