Ex-Met officer David Carrick appears in court charged with sex attacks

Former Scotland Yard protection officer David Carrick has appeared in court charged with a string of sex attacks including the indecent assault of a schoolgirl aged under 14.

The 49-year-old faces two rape allegations, five indecent assault charges, one count of sexual assault and one of coercive or controlling behaviour relating to two alleged victims.

The indecent assault charges relate to a victim aged under 14 and took place in Salisbury between 1989 and 1990, according to legal documents.

The former Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection officer has also been charged with two counts of rape, one of sexual assault and one of coercive and controlling behaviour in relation to a second victim, alleged to have taken place between 2014 and 2019 in Stevenage, Herts.

Claire Harden-Frost, prosecuting at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, said: ‘Mr Carrick is charged with two sets of offences that arise out of allegations from two separate complainants.

 ‘Mr Carrick is charged with a mixture of indictable only and each way offences.

‘Our submission is that it should be sent to the Crown Court for trial.’

Carrick appeared via videolink wearing a grey T-shirt and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

Chief magistrate Paul Goldspring said he had to send the charges to the Old Bailey to be dealt with by a crown court judge.

‘I will send the matters to the Central Criminal Court where he will appear in custody on November 14,’ he said.

‘Mr Carrick, just to make clear, you face a number of allegations – two of which are indictable only so they must be sent to the crown court.

‘This means that the charges will be sent to the Central Criminal Court where they will be heard on November 14.

‘You will appear before the Central Criminal Court in custody on November 14.’
