Woman, 49, dead after three-car crash in Nottingham

 A woman has been killed in a devastating three-vehicle pile up as police urge witnesses to come forward with more information.

Emergency services were scrambled to the scene on the A46 near Screveton, Nottingham, following reports of a crash involving two cars and a van at around 10.30pm yesterday.

A 49-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a police investigation is underway.

The road was shut southbound while enquires were made but has now reopened. 

Officers want to hear from anyone who can assist with information or relevant dashcam footage.

Sergeant Mark Baker, of Nottinghamshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

'This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with this woman's family and loved ones at an incredibly distressing time.

'They will be supported by specially trained officers.

'Our investigation into the causes of the collision is at a very early stage and I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.

'I would also like to thank motorists for their patience while road closures were in place.'
