A dog walker in her 80s was trampled to death by an aggressive cow just days after a man had been charged at in the same spot.

Investigations are underway after the woman tragically died from the serious injuries she suffered in the New Forest in Hampshire on Monday.

She was attacked by the cow in Godshill and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.

A pathologist will soon carry out a post mortem examination to determine the exact cause of her death and an inquest is expected.

Paramedics were called to Roger Penny Way after receiving the emergency alert and the OAP was taken to hospital, where she was then pronounced dead.

Police say the death is being treated as unexplained and are preparing a file for the coroner.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: 'We were called shortly before 2pm on October 21, to assist our colleagues at South Central Ambulance Service following a report of a concern for welfare of a woman on Roger Penny Way, Godshill.

'The woman, aged in her 80s, was located and had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. Her next of kin have been informed.

'Officers are currently treating the death as unexplained and are carrying out further inquiries to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the sudden death of the victim.'

The news comes after only yesterday a man warned people of the dangers of passing cattle when he was charged at and jumped on unprovoked - also in the New Forest.

Kevin Parker, 63, from Fordingbridge, was on his regular dog walk at Godshill on October 17 when he encountered what he thought was one cow crossing in front of him.

He said: 'I held back and let it cross. What I didn't know was that there was a second one behind the bush about 20 yards away.

'As I walked towards the crossing, the second one charged at me.'

Mr Parker ended up on the ground. Fortunately he rolled away before a cow jumped and its front hooves landed 'exactly where he had fallen'.

Thankfully, the 63-year-old managed to escape.

In a separate tragic incident, a young dog walker in Leicestershire was killed in a field of cows.

Rebekah Morris (pictured) had 'hoofprints' to her chest and shoulder, and suffered an injury to her liver

Rebekah Morris, 29, was out walking her small chihuahua called Zero in fields close to her home when she sent an image to her mother with the caption 'cowz'.

She then stopped responding to messages, prompting her worried parents to go to the field in the photograph - where they found her.

Emergency services were called but she went into cardiac arrest and, despite efforts by paramedics, was pronounced dead at the scene in Littlethorpe, Leicestershire, on the evening of July 9, 2022.

Forensic pathologist Michael Biggs told the inquest that Ms Morris - known to family and friends as Becki - had 'hoofprints' to her chest and shoulder, and suffered an injury to her liver, which led to her death from internal bleeding.

An inquest concluded last week that Ms Morris had been trampled to death by a cow.
