Detectives continue to quiz Wallsend murder suspects as officers remain at scene

A man in his 60s died after being found injured at a home on Holly Avenue

Murder detectives are today continuing to question two suspects over the death of a man found injured at a Tyneside home

The man, who was in his 60s, was found when emergency services were called to Holly Avenue, in Wallsend at just after 5am on Sunday. He was pronounced dead at hospital soon after. Police suspect the man had been assaulted and a murder investigation was launched.

Two men, aged 41 and 34, were arrested. Both are today still in police custody being questioned on suspicion of murder.

An area of Holly Avenue remained taped off by police this morning with officers still at the scene carrying out investigations. Uniformed cops could be seen at the door of one home.

Det Chief Insp c, of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team (MIT), has appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who has sadly passed away at this difficult time. We have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the man’s death, which we are treating as suspicious.

“Two people have been arrested and they remain in police custody at this time. I would appeal to anyone who may have information regarding our investigation to contact us immediately. Your information – no matter how small or insignificant you feel it may be - will assist us in getting the answers the man’s family deserve.”
