Two held after suspected cannabis farm discovered in Morpeth after police called to 'disturbance'

Police made the discovery after being called to a disturbance on Abbey Terrace on Wednesday morning

Suspects are today being quizzed after what is thought to be a cannabis farm was found in a historic market town.

Police were called to a property on Abbey Terrace in Morpeth at around 8.30am on Wednesday. It was reported that there had been a disturbance at the premises, but once inside officers found what they suspect to be a cannabis farm.

Two men were arrested at the scene and are today being questioned in police custody.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "At around 8.30am this morning we received a report of a disturbance at a premises on Abbey Terrace in Morpeth. Emergency services attended and uncovered a suspected cannabis farm within the property. Two men, aged 27 and 45, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of the production of class B drugs.

“They are currently in police custody and enquiries are ongoing.”

The Chronicle understands the fire service also attended the incident.
