Rape suspect held a year on from alleged attack in South Shields

Northumbria Police said it received a report that a woman in her 20s had made plans to meet up with a man in the Tyne Dock area of South Shields on the evening of Saturday, December 30, 2023. The force said she was raped in Boldon Lane.
An investigation was launched and now, almost a year on, a suspect, has been arrested. The man was questioned on suspicion of rape before being released on bail as the probe continues.
Police say the victim is being supported by specially trained officers.
