Longbenton motorist in court accused of causing serious injury by careless driving
by Sara Nichol · ChronicleLiveA motorist has appeared in court accused of causing serious injuries by careless driving.
Mark Seaborn was allegedly behind the wheel of a Kia Sportage when he caused an crash on Benton Road, in North Tyneside, on February 6 this year. The driver of another car suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision, Newcastle Magistrates' Court was told.
Seaborn, 46, of Hiddleston Avenue, in Longbenton, appeared in the dock this week charged with causing serious injury by careless driving. He pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Claire Armstrong, prosecuting, said the case could be tried at the magistrates' court. She added: "The Crown would say it is suitable to be heard here." Mark Styles, defending, said: "The defendant denies driving in a careless manner - it was an unfortunate accident but an accident nonetheless."
Accepting jurisdiction, District Judge Paul Currer said: "You're charged with the offence of causing serious injury by careless driving and you have pleaded not guilty. So, that matter will have to be resolved by a trial.
"That trial will be on January 27 next year at Bedlington Magistrates' Court at 2pm. You must attend at that time and on that date . If you fail to do so, you potentially commit an offence under the bail act.
"I have to give you that warning, I'm sure you will attend. You deny driving carelessly and say it was an accident."
Seaborn was given unconditional bail to next appear at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court on January 27 2025.
