Police seize two toy guns from a car pulled over in Byker

At around 5pm on Monday evening, several police cars were seen on the A193, close to Byker Metro Station. Earlier that day, it had been reported to Durham Police on Monday morning that there were sightings of an air weapon inside a vehicle travelling around Aycliffe.
Northumbria Police pulled over a car 32 miles away in Byker, and two toy pellet guns were seized. The force confirmed that the two toy pellet guns were signed over for destruction.
Durham Constabulary, who are leading the investigation, have confirmed that no arrests have been made.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Police were called shortly after 10.30am on Monday (December 9) to reports of sightings of an air weapon inside a vehicle travelling around Aycliffe. Colleagues from Northumbria Police later stopped the vehicle ad seized what is believed to be a toy pellet gun."
