Closure Order extended for Wallsend home following reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity

A home in Wallsend which has been linked to anti-social behaviour and criminal activity has had a closure order imposed on it extended for three months.

The reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity led to North Tyneside Magistrates' Court granting the extension of the order. The extension means that the property remains subject to strict restrictions under section 80 of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. This also means if the tenants have visitors, it could result in a prison sentence.

The order was granted after North Tyneside Council and Northumbria Police received continued reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity, with both the council and police taking further action to address ongoing issues that have disrupted the lives of neighbours.

Coun Karen Clark, Cabinet Member for community safety and tackling anti-social behaviour, said: "The extension of this Closure Order demonstrates our unwavering commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour and supporting our residents.

"Working closely with Northumbria Police, we have taken decisive action to protect the community and ensure that those responsible face the consequences of their actions. We hope this provides some much-needed respite for residents who have endured unacceptable behaviour for far too long."

Chief Inspector Dave Morrison, of Northumbria Police, added: "This is another great example of our neighbourhood teams working closely with local authority partners to tackle anti-social behaviour in the community.

"As ever, we want to keep residents safe, and we’ll continue to take action against those who cause the most harm in our region. Nobody wants this type of behaviour on their doorstep, and we’ll do everything in our power to ensure North Tyneside remains a great place to live, work and visit."

Residents can report antisocial behaviour via Northumbria Police’s ‘Tell Us Something’ page or North Tyneside Council’s Report It page.
