Gateshead fire sees one taken to hospital as six stations deploy vehicles to incident

A fire in Gateshead has seen one person be taken to hospital, as six stations deployed vehicles to tackle the incident. At around 9.30pm on Monday night, firefighters were sent to Redheugh Court, on Bolam Street, Gateshead.

Six appliances were deployed from Newcastle Central, Swalwell, Gosforth, Gateshead, Byker and Washington Community Fire Stations.

The first crew arrived quickly, ensuring that all were accounted for, and one person who required further care was sent to hospital.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hoses to put the fire out, leaving the incident just after 11pm.

A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that six appliances from Newcastle Central, Swalwell, Gosforth, Gateshead, Byker and Washington Community Fire Stations were dispatched to Redheugh Court, on Bolam Street in Gateshead, last night [Monday 16th December] after a report of a fire.

"The emergency call came in at 9:24pm and the first crew arrived within five minutes. All persons were accounted for and one casualty was taken to hospital.

"Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, then left the scene shortly after 11:01pm."
