North Shields binman denies causing serious injury by careless driving

Steven Thompson is accused of being behind the wheel of a Mercedes bin wagon when a collision happened at a BP garage, in Hexham, on October 20 2022. During a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, he pleaded not guilty to causing serious injury by careless driving.
The 38-year-old, of Blandford Road, in North Shields, was told he will stand trial on June 10 2026 and was further released on bail. He will be back in court for two further pre-trial hearings before that date.
Judge Amanda Rippon apologised to Thompson for the fact the earliest date for his trial is so far ahead. She added that he will have to provide a defence statement setting out what he says happened.
