Five arrests have been made after suspected drugs worth thousands of pounds were seized in police raids.

The suspected drugs haul said to have a value of tens of thousands of pounds was found following an operation by police in Newcastle. Working as part of Operation Peitho, the Newcastle Neighbourhood Support Team (NST) and Jesmond and Heaton Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) identified an address on Newcastle Quayside they believed was being used by an organised crime gang.

On Saturday, officers carried out a warrant at the address and uncovered a haul of suspected drugs and cash. Police say these included quantities of cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and cannabis believed to be valued in the region of between £68,320 and £78,570 as well as other drug paraphernalia including scales.

Chief Inspector David Wheeler, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is a sizeable haul of drugs which have been seized by our officers as part of this operation. Nobody wants to have this kind of illicit activity on their doorstep and that is why we take any information around drug dealing extremely seriously.

“We’d ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears and assist us in providing information on this type of criminality so that we can take the appropriate action.”

Anyone who has information on suspected drug activity can send Northumbria Police a private message on social media, use the live chat function on the Force website or use the report pages, also on the website. For those unable to contact the force via those ways, call 101.
