See damage caused to home targeted in Westerhope shooting
by Sophie Doughty · ChronicleLiveNew pictures reveal the shocking damage caused when a home on a quiet street was shot at.
Police are today still at the scene of the gun incident, which happened during the early hours of Monday morning, on Beaumont Terrace in Westerhope, Newcastle.
Officers say a window and a wall were damaged when a firearm was "discharged at a property" at around 4.30am. Beaumont Terrace was cordoned off by police throughout the day on Monday while forensics officers scoured the street for evidence.
No-one has yet been arrested and police remain at the scene as the hunt continues. And on Tuesday, the damage caused to the home that was targeted is visible. What looks like a bullet hole can be seen in an upstairs window of one property. The window appears to have been boarded up from the inside and the glass surrounding the hole has been shattered.
Police yesterday confirmed that no-one had been injured.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At 4.30am we received a report of a disturbance on Beaumont Terrace in the Westerhope area of Newcastle. It was reported that a suspected firearm had been discharged at a property, causing damage to a window and wall. The offender then made off from the scene. Emergency services attended and no-one was reported to have been injured. We believe this to be an isolated incident and a full investigation is under way.
“Officers remain at the scene to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to residents."
One woman who works lives on the street told the Chronicle she did not realize what was going on until her partner phoned her.
The 48-year-old said: “I don’t know anything. I was up quite early and I hadn’t heard anything. It was people I know in the area that rang us this morning and said ‘what’s going on’? It is shocking. It’s a quiet little street, it’s a nice little village. You don’t expect something like that."
Police have also appealed for witnesses.
