Rape investigation launched in Sunderland after man attacked in city centre
by Owen Younger · ChronicleLiveA Sunderland rape investigation has seen police release the image of a man who could help with their inquiries. On Thursday, December 7, 2023, officers received a report that a man had been raped by another man at an address in the city centre.
The incident is believed to have taken place overnight between 11pm on Tuesday, December 5 and 8am on Wednesday, December 6. Police immediately launched an investigation, and the victim is continuing to be supported by specially-trained officers.
Extensive inquiries have been carried out by officers since the report was first made last year, with a recent review of CCTV footage from the time having taken place. Following this, police have now released an image of man who they would like to speak to.
The man was believed to have been in the area at the time when the incident was reported to have taken place, with officers believing he may be able to assist with the investigation.
The man, or anyone who recognises him, should send Northumbria Police a direct message on social media, using the live chat function or online report forms on the police website here. Those unable to contact police in these ways can call 101, and quote the crime reference number: 151468Y/23.
